Framework for action

Sustainability in our vision

We want to make our contribution to a safe and liveable future. That is why sustainability and profitability are the framework for our actions. We stand for reliability, sustainability and diversity.
Dr Gerhard Schulz, Chairman of the Executive Board

Sustainability is firmly anchored in our vision. We see sustainability as an opportunity and as one of the guiding principles for our business activities. We are supporting the German government in its goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030. We have set ourselves the goal of being climate-neutral by 2028.

Aspects of sustainability

The social, economic and environmental aspects are closely interrelated. We therefore implement sustainability holistically in the three areas of responsibility.

  • We are an attractive employer - for Toll Collect employees and for those who want to become one. Our tasks are varied, interesting and relevant. We have a common set of values and support each other. We look at tasks from different perspectives and treat each other without discrimination or prejudice. In this way, we secure attractive jobs with long-term prospects.

    In focus:

    • Increasing the proportion of women in the second management level
  • As a high-performance technology service provider, we advise and support the federal government, particularly in the further development and implementation of user financing for transport infrastructure, the digitalisation of transport and the expansion of charging infrastructure for alternative drive systems. In the interests of the federal government, we make data from the toll system usable for intelligent traffic management, while complying with data protection regulations. In addition to our core toll business and on the basis of our expertise in the areas of mobility and infrastructure, we are developing further business areas. In this way, we create added value for society and secure the future viability of the company.

    In focus:

    • Further development of the toll system
    • Creation and communication of a supplier code of conduct
    • Integration of sustainability criteria in procurement processes
  • We support the federal government in the further digitalisation of transport. We will ensure that the environmental steering effect of the toll is channelled towards vehicles with lower pollutant emissions and help to ensure that the transport infrastructure can be used more effectively. In doing so, we are reducing the environmental footprint of our own business activities. We support the federal government's sustainability strategy and want to be climate-neutral ourselves by 2028. We have been certified in accordance with the European environmental management standard EMAS since 2005 and publish an annual environmental statement that is validated by an external auditor.

    In focus:

    • Environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 and EMAS
    • Minimising the use of resources (e.g. energy, water, materials)
    • Use of 100 percent climate-neutral electricity
    • Promotion of environmentally oriented thinking and action at Toll Collect

B.A.U.M. Code of Conduct for Sustainable Management

In 2022, the management and works council signed the B.A.U.M. Code for Sustainable Management. Toll Collect has been a member of the Bundesdeutscher Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management e.V. (B.A.U.M. e.V.) - a cross-industry network for sustainable management - since 2021. Together, we want to take responsibility: for nature, for a future worth living for society and a transparent approach to our actions.
